Abstract

The branch of aesthetics concerned with the analysis and description of artistic phenomena exists as a meta-discipline in relationship to art. Let us call this branch of aesthetics meta-art. This article describes a model in which meta-art is a set of all sentences about art. This idea follows from the hypothesis of cardinality of natural phenomena described here and echoes the notion of metamathematics proposed by A. Tarski. I describe the concrete consequences of this model in relation to M. Weitz’s well-known essay The Role of Theory in Aesthetics. Since this article relies on concepts uncommon in the humanities, I will start it with a brief summary.
